May’s been one of the best months I’ve had in while and everything finally seems to be looking up. Not only did I have my Birthday to celebrate but I also got the job I’d wanted so badly! I haven’t felt this happy or excited about my career in a long time and now I’m back to feeling passionate again, I’m hoping to blog more as well.
A visit to Chester Zoo
After watching Channel 4’s The secret life of the Zoo and seeing all the baby animals being born, we booked a weekend away in Chester. We wandered around Chester on the Saturday before heading to the Zoo the following day. There was so much to see and do there, with the sun shining and the boat ride around ‘The Islands’, it almost felt like we were abroad!
Hot air balloons in Durham
When I heard that Durham was holding it’s first hot air balloon festival over the bank holiday, I knew I had to go! I’ve always liked the look of different kite and balloon festivals around the world but never imagined there would be one held so close to home. We drove to Durham one afternoon to watch the Balloons inflate before they set off later in the day. They were much bigger than I’d expected!
Wandering at Wynyard Gardens
We’re always looking for new places to visit at the weekend and after reading the latest Living North Magazine, we decided to visit Wynyard Gardens. It was beautiful. I realise I sound really old appreciating gardens at the age of 24 but it was just so neat and colourful with walkways and fountains everywhere you looked! My Instagram drafts have never been so full…
Cuddles at Whitehouse Farm
Every year without fail I go to Whitehouse Farm in Spring. Being off work for the last 6 weeks meant that I was able to go during the week when all the kids were at school. The farm was practically empty which meant I got to cuddle this little black lamb for as long as I wanted without having to pass her on, I was in my element! She was so content and before I knew it I found myself swaying back and forth with her, that’s about as maternal as I get!
Marooned on St Mary’s island
The photography course I’d been looking forward to the most was ‘Marooned’. One Saturday we all met at St Mary’s Lighthouse, waited for the tide to come in and for everyone to leave the island so that we had it all to ourselves. I found out that the island actually becomes a nature reserve when the tide comes in attracting lots of different birds and wildlife. The view from the top of the lighthouse was great, we could even see the seals swimming around looking for a way to get up onto the rocks and make the most of the sun!
Afternoon tea at Crowne Plaza
For part of my Birthday we went to the Crowne Plaza for Afternoon Tea. It was the first time my Dad & Paul had tried Afternoon Tea but after enjoying trying all the different scones and desserts they might be joining us more often!
